Behind every nervous pet that finds its calm, every complicated case, and every client who leaves feeling confident — there is a veterinary assistant who made that happen! They are the steady hands and gentle voices working at the heart of patient care every single day.
This week, Encore Vet Group is proud to say thank you to every veterinary assistant across our community of practices. You are the people our patients trust, our clients lean on, and our medical teams could not do this without!
We asked our teams to share what makes their veterinary assistants so special. Here is what they had to say!
Leading With Heart at Big Creek Veterinary Hospital
Practice Manager Jodi shared that the Veterinary Assistant team at Big Creek Veterinary Hospital creates “magic moments” throughout every single day, like tucking treats into prescription bags, choosing the perfect bandana for a pup after a nail trim, or making sure a patient gets their Pet of the Day photo. These touches may seem small, but they leave a lasting impression on pets and families alike. Compassion, joy, and purpose in action!
From Intern to Irreplaceable at Reynolda Veterinary Hospital
When Lacie came to Reynolda Veterinary Hospital to complete her internship, her kindness and compassion were so evident that the entire team went to Practice Manager Maggie and asked begged for her to stay! So, she never left. Her professionalism, love for animals, and willingness to learn won everyone over completely. As team member Paola put it:
“We are so lucky to have her!”
Honoring the Whole Team at Fitchburg Veterinary Hospital
Practice Manager Mary put it simply:
“From comforting nervous pets to supporting the medical team and helping clients feel cared for, the Veterinary Assistants at Fitchburg Veterinary Hospital make a meaningful impact every day. Their compassion, teamwork, and dedication ensure every patient gets the attention and kindness they deserve.”
In Their Own Words
We asked some of our veterinary assistants to share a moment that has stuck with them. Here is what they told us.
Sierra Smith, Union Pet Hospital:
“A meaningful moment was when I supported a coworker when they had to put down their loving pet, a Chihuahua named Peanut. We made a peanut-themed vet wrap and were there during her final moments.”
Ramona Lowry, Northfield Veterinary Hospital:
“Juniper was a fearful dog who required sedation for her exams. After some changes to her care routine, she can now come in without sedation and get a full exam, vaccines, and have blood drawn. Knowing that she trusts me, and that her owners value my time with her — there is just no greater feeling than that kind of love.”
Fiona, Providence River Animal Hospital:
“Last summer I helped care for a German Shepherd puppy with a rare congenital condition requiring ongoing treatment. Working with the same family over time showed me how much compassionate care and strong client relationships shape the patient experience — it had such an impact on me that I wrote about it in my vet school application.”
To every veterinary assistant across every Encore Vet Group practice: we are so grateful for the heart you bring to this work every day!
Happy Veterinary Assistant Week. Thank you for everything you do!
