Veterinary technicians are medical professionals, and the work they do reaches nearly every corner of the hospital. They place catheters, monitor anesthesia, take radiographs, run lab work, perform dental cleanings, assist in surgery, and care for critically ill patients. Then they turn around and explain it all to a worried client in a way that makes sense. No two days look the same, and that is exactly what makes this role so remarkable.
Last week was Vet Tech Week (October 18-24), and we wanted to take a moment to share some praise about our vet techs! We asked our practices to tell us what makes their technicians so special. Here is what they had to say!
Today’s Lesson: Vet Techs Are a Big Deal!
Two of the Associate Practice Managers at West Suburban Animal Hospital are also Registered Veterinary Technicians, and they recently traded the exam room for a classroom full of 2nd graders! They taught the kids about the different kinds of vets and the important role veterinary nurses play in caring for our furry friends. Who knows? There might just be a future CVT or two sitting in that classroom.
Their story is also a great reminder that a technician’s path does not have to stop at the treatment area. Strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of the patient and client experience, and a talent for teaching and leading make vet techs natural fits for practice management! These two RVTs are proof that a technician career can grow in many directions, including into leadership, while keeping one foot in the medicine they love.
Where the Smallest Signs Matter Most at Veterinary Emergency Center
In emergency medicine, the biggest wins often start with the smallest signs. A patient becoming a little more alert. A little more comfortable. The first hint of improvement after a very hard day.
For Audri, an RVT at Veterinary Emergency Center, those moments are what make her work so meaningful:
“My favorite part of being an RVT is watching patients go from not feeling well to seeing those subtle signs that they’re starting to feel better, and watching their progress throughout their hospital stay.”
Behind those moments is a tremendous amount of medical knowledge, technical skill, and hands-on care. From assisting with surgery to monitoring critically ill patients, technicians are an essential part of the medical team, and we are celebrating the entire technician team at Veterinary Emergency Center for the incredible work they do!
A Little Heart, A Little Muscle, and a Whole Lot of Brains
Every great team needs a bit of everything, and the RVT trio at Lake Pointe Veterinary Hospital has it covered. Their Practice Manager shared what makes Sandra, Kira, and Cassie so special:
Kira is the Heart. She is the glue that holds everyone together, keeps morale high, supports her teammates, and makes sure nobody feels like they are in it alone.
Sandra is the Muscle. She is the dependable doer who jumps into action, tackles challenges head-on, and makes sure things get done.
Cassie is the Brains. She is the planner and problem-solver who thinks ahead, stays organized, and keeps the team focused when things get complicated.
And while each brings her own strengths, their Practice Manager was quick to add:
“To be honest, I think they each fit all three!”
The Next Generation of Technicians
We also want to send some love to everyone who is still working toward their credentials! To the students in vet tech programs, the veterinary assistants preparing for their exams, and the team members learning something new in the treatment area every single day: your hard work does not go unnoticed. Every certified technician started exactly where you are, and we are cheering you on!
Thank You, Technicians
To every veterinary technician across every Encore Vet Group, thank you for the skill you bring to every procedure, the compassion you show every patient, and the way you lift up the people around you. You are medical professionals, teachers, leaders, and the heart of our hospitals. We are so grateful for you!
