We wholeheartedly believe in the power of education and mentorship to inspire the future of veterinary medicine! Our practices love finding creative ways to engage with young minds, sparking curiosity about the profession and encouraging a love for animals. Recently, some of our teams went above and beyond to bring veterinary medicine to life for children in their communities!
A Preschool Visit to Remember
Kendra, the Practice Manager at Suburban Animal Clinic of Monroe, recently visited a preschool class to introduce young students to the world of veterinary medicine. She shared insights on pet health care and the education required to become a veterinary nurse or veterinarian. The children had a fun and engaging hands-on experience—using stethoscopes to listen to heartbeats, practicing bandaging on their stuffed animals, and even examining real bladder stones, extracted teeth, and ticks from pets.
A Day of Learning at the Children’s Museum
Dr. Lembcke, Medical Director at Country View Veterinary Service, recently spent a Saturday at a children’s museum, teaching young visitors all about the veterinary profession. The day was packed with engaging activities, including a storytime featuring Biscuit and His Trip to the Veterinarian, where kids learned about a pet’s experience at the vet. Children also practiced bandaging their stuffed animals with vet wrap, made their own functioning stethoscopes to take home, and even played veterinarian in a dedicated clinic play area. Each child who participated received an “Official Veterinary Assistant” badge—a wonderful way to encourage their budding interest in animal care! Even better, proceeds from purchases made during the event supported the local humane society, reinforcing the importance of giving back to the animal community.
Future Veterinarians in the Making
Animal Hospital of Shawnee Hills recently hosted a local Girl Scout troop for an exciting day of learning. The troop received a behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital and participated in a full exam on Eddie, a willing furry volunteer, including listening to his heartbeat. To top off the experience, each scout had the opportunity to make their own stethoscope. Who knows—this experience might have sparked the passion of future veterinarians and veterinary nurses!
These experiences highlight the incredible ways veterinary professionals can inspire and educate the next generation. By making learning fun and interactive, our teams are fostering a love for animal care and encouraging children to explore careers in veterinary medicine. Who knows? The next great veterinarian, veterinary technician, or practice manager may have gotten their start thanks to one of these amazing experiences!
We are so proud of our teams for their commitment to education and community engagement. We can’t wait to see what other exciting outreach opportunities come next!
