39 degrees doesn’t stop Michele Griffin from jumping in the cold lake in Andersen, South Carolina. The Lead Customer Service Representative from Magnolia Veterinary Hospital was on a mission to give back to the community after receiving so much support raising her four children through the years.
“I lived in a community that was so generous to my kids. They were able to play sports at no charge, attend after-school programs for reduced cost, and never felt the strain of not blending in with the other families. I swore back then that anytime I was able to help another person, I would.”
Michele found an event that raised money for a few local organizations to provide food to those in need, care, counseling, and advocacy for sexual assault and child abuse survivors, and of course, a local animal shelter. But this event wasn’t a typical fundraising event. It involved them jumping into the cold lake in early spring. Michele says that waiting outside in the wind was the worst part, so they did manage to stay in the water for 8 minutes.
“I think that the best part of the event was that one of the very new employees came and jumped in the water with me (Madison Maria). We developed a great bond, had lots of laughs, and started building a friendship during this time.”
Michele and her teammates at Magnolia Veterinary Hospital are proud to say they raised $360 in donations for the Polar Bear Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason! Encore loved their level of involvement and Michele’s passion for giving back, so we matched their donation and gave another $360. Great job, Michele!
